Day 23 | He Came Seeking You
Reading: Luke 19:10; Ezekiel 34:16
Chances are, you will receive multiple Christmas cards this year that picture a shepherd on them. Perhaps there is no other Christmas image that connects with our heart than that of a shepherd. In the Luke account of Jesus’ birth, we see the shepherds “…out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.” (Luke 2:8) Do you see it? A shepherd watches. A shepherd cares. A shepherd provides. A shepherd guides. When sheep wander off and get lost, the shepherd makes it his mission to find them. A shepherd seeks.
To seek and save the lost summarizes Jesus’ mission. His encounter with Zacchaeus in Luke 19 reflects His purpose. Jesus told the “wee little man” why He came into the world: to seek and save the lost. His words echoed those of His Father in Ezekiel 34:16. Think about that: Jesus was born into the world so He might seek and find you, bind up your wounds, strengthen you in moments of weakness, and protect your heart, all while shepherding you with justice for His glory! That’s amazing!
As you anticipate the joyful celebration of Christmas, allow Jesus to shepherd your heart.
Question: How can I rest in the loving protection and care of the Good Shepherd?
