Serve the City is our churchwide, concentrated effort to impact our community in the name of Jesus. Through various projects and acts of kindness, we want to connect with those outside our church family and make Jesus known by sharing and displaying the gospel in word and deed.

As followers of Jesus, we are “the light of the world.” And Jesus calls His followers to “let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good deeds and give glory to your Father who is in heaven” (Matt 5:14,16).

Serve the City is an opportunity for our church family to come together to do “good deeds” for the glory of God in our community. We want people to see the transforming power of Jesus in our lives by how we love and serve them.

Project Ideas

null
We want to see our LifeGroups and Ministries brainstorm and design their project ideas. Project ideas can vary widely. The main goal is to serve those outside of our church family but use your creativity! Here are some simple steps to take in order to develop your Serve the City plan:
1

Pray

Ask God to lead you as you design your project for Serve the City. How might He use your group to love on the community?
2

Imagine

Envision what it might look like for you and friends to Serve the City.
3

ask questions

Think through questions like “How is our LifeGroup uniquely gifted and connected to serve the city?” and “Who do we know (business, non-profit organization, family, etc.) that we can bless through Serve the City?” Who in our community has a need? Discuss project ideas with your group.
4

focus

Serve the City is a time for Eagle’s Landing to focus on reaching out to our city. We’re asking that we serve the outside community on Serve the City day.
5

organize

Will you need tools and supplies? How many people can serve? What will everyone need to do to make the project a success? Mobilize your group. Gather resources if needed. Make sure all of your group has the details.
Here are some project ideas:
  • Clean up a widow’s or single mother’s yard
  • Rally your group to meet needs in your neighborhood
  • Deliver snacks, baked goods or lunch to a fire station or police station
  • Offer free car washes
  • Serve your neighborhood school
  • Deliver fresh flowers or snacks to assisted living home residents
  • Perform landscaping services like grass-cutting and shrub-trimming
  • Serve a family with a member with special needs
  • Community trash pick-up
  • Hwy 42 trash pick-up
  • Spread pine straw or mulch at a local park
  • Wash windows for local businesses using professional window washing supplies available at local building supply stores
  • Put together dinner kits for families in need
  • Corral shopping carts at a local supermarket/shopping center
  • Pick up trash in parking lot at local supermarket/shopping center
  • Laundromat assistance (take rolls of quarters, coffee, juice and donuts and have fun serving customers) – Student Ministry
  • Toilet and bathroom cleaning at local businesses

faq

Will there be childcare available?

No, childcare will not be available but think through how to involve your children.

What if I don’t have a LifeGroup?

Contact Jeremy Robbins, the Director of Local Outreach, and he will connect you with a group or project! Jeremy.robbins@eagleslanding.org

Our project idea requires funds that we don’t have. Will finances be available?

We are encouraging our groups to think through how to meet the needs of their projects from within the group. Choose a project that requires minimal to no cost. You may have access to resources to meet the supply need.

How long will Serve the City last?

We are encouraging our groups to design projects that will take 2-4 hours. It’s just fine if you want to design a project that lasts longer.

Shirts? Will there be cool shirts?

Yes! Give us your size when you register to participate if you do not already have one from the last Serve the City.

What should I bring?

Bring anything you might need like appropriate tools for the project, gloves, hats, sunscreen, bottled water, etc.

Can I post pictures and videos to social media?

Please do! Use #servethecityel

What happens on the day?

We will meet at 8:30 am for coffee and donuts, pray, and then we will send out the groups to serve the city at 9:00! If you’re serving with your LifeGroup, coordinate where to meet that morning.

Remember to love on people as you meet needs, have lots of fun, and celebrate what God does!
